What makes an excellent realtor?

It is easy to get a real estate license, but not everyone can be a good realtor. When you are looking for an agent, ask not only your friends for referrals, but also ask other agents and people in the real estate business. These are the people who see agents who know what they are doing.   But here are a few things you can look for:  (some are expected, and some you might not have thought about)

  1. An agent who listens to client’s concerns and address them
  2. An agent who is experienced, and foresee and avoid potential issues
  3. An agent who can think and solve problems when they arise. Every transaction is different because there are so many factors involved. Situations come up and you want an agent who can come to a solution quickly.
  4. An agent who can, not only work with clients, but also with the cooperating agents, the lenders, the title companies, the inspectors etc etc. A faltered relationship with any party can jeopardize a transaction. When there are 2 sides to the transaction, agents sometimes have to be peacemakers to help carry the transaction to closing.  An agent who has good relationships with others also mean these people will jump through hoops to make things happen.  
  5. An agent who can negotiate and understand the ins and outs of negotiation
  6. An agent who can understand and observe the buyers’ likes and dislikes sometimes before the buyers.
  7. An agent who knows rules and forms and make sure no one (you included) get into trouble.
  8. An agent who is meticulous and doesn’t let the balls fall on his/her court.
  9. An agent who is patient and will walk you through every phase of the process
  10. An agent who can layout the different options so that clients can have a full picture to make wise decisions
